hi all,
allow me to jump in to share my personal experience about windows 7 as a visually impaired user.

starting to use windows 7 since july 2009. during that time, the latest release of jaws only at version 10 and since windows 7 is develop using the same architecture like windows Vista, so jaws 10 working about 85% with windows 7.

what so special in windows 7?

1. windows 7 can be install into a system which only have 1GB of RAM, and it can run smoothly. this cannot acheve with windows Vista.

2. for visually impaired user, you must choose windows 7 home premium or higher, because, windows 7 home basic and windows 7 starter, user cannot change the themes to windows classic. windows classic themes is the recommended themes for screen reader user.

3. now windows 7 is working perfectly with the latest release of jaws and NVDA, and i believe window-eyes also working quite well.

4. overall, i personally recommend visually impaired computer user to move to windows 7, dont worry, the layout is not much different compared to windows XP or even Vista.

5. has been almost 10 months using windows 7, i am glad to say, windows 7 is a good operating system and i am no regret to left windows XP behind.

you are welcome to throw questions to me about windows 7, i'll try my best effort to answer them.

Allan
