The relationship between Type 2 diabetes and blurred vision
by InspiredWritingResearch
The relationship between Type 2 Diabetes and blurred vision has lnog been appreciated. Diabetes patients can't control their blood glucose concentration very well and a build up of glucose in the blood can affect sight. The good news is that while Type 1 diabetes needs insulin treatment, Type 2 Diabetes can be controlled by careful diet watching and taking regular gentle exercise. However, there are still long-term implications for vision health so patient's must look to their future vision quality.
In controlling blood sugar amounts, it's imperative that blood glucose or sugar concentration stays more or less at a constant level. If this concentration rises beyond a certain tight range, potentially dangerous outcomes can result. If the glucose in the blood is too high, then exhaustion can quickly set in and vision can become blurred. Conversely, in the opposite scenario, insufficient glucose leads to loss of consciousness, confusion, or coma.
In the case of raised blood sugar, the lens of the eye can start to swell and visual acuity can be affected. A patient's ability to see clearly can be seriously compromised. The good news is that to counteract the vision blurring, blood sugar can often be taken back into the safe range by modifying diet and curbing intake of sweet foods. However, a doctor should be consulted as It can take a few months for the blood sugar is get back to normal and vision will not improve until after that.
It is important not to put off consultation over these early symptoms however. Although vision may improve, long term damage is likely if steps are not taken to overcome the problems. Gradually, high glucose levels can damage the eye's blood vessels at the retina, a condition called diabetic retinopathy. This can have damaging repercussions up to twenty years later. The proliferative type of retinopathy is abnormal development of the blood vessels associated with the retina. When these vessels bleed or leak it can cause scarring causing blurred eyesight, partial loss of sight or worse. Blindness can be the most serious result. The good news is that if consultation is not put off and early diagnosis results in accurate testing, then treatments such as laser therapy can help. Sadly, existing damage cannot be reversed. All the more reason to take early action in the case of blurred vision related to Type 2 diabetes.
