The walking stick is working with the help of two battery cells and makes different sounds. Anandan, a 'mithai master' in Kulasekharapatnam, who displayed the special cane fitted with a wheel at the bottom, at a seminar on 'Innovations for Human development,' told PTI that a specially fitted three-foot aerial to the cane, vibrates whenever the stick-holder comes across an obstacle. On what prompted him to make the stick, Anandan said he became upset when he saw a blind man falling into a pit and struggling to regain control. From then on, he started working to develop a stick useful for the visually challenged. He had first made a cane with seven wheels, making different sounds when it dashed against stones, pits, Anandan said adding S Gurumurthy of Swadeshi Jagaran Manch had advised him to go in for a lighter one, since that cane weighed about 24 KGs. After working day and night, he had succeeded in developing the new 1.3 kg stick, fitted with earphone, toy car motor and a bell, by which the user can get the indication of pits and other obstacles, he said. Short of fund for mass production, Anandan, who earns rs.100 a day, however, does not want to sell the rights of his invention, but would seek loans to market the product on his own. Message-ID: <015901c5aeff$2dcb5140$b45fbad2@userb9e9355ddf> OK, I have rather a lot of things to say here... I'm writing in response to the below-quoted message sent to the Skype-English mailing list, but I'm also sending these comments to Skype, the company. First, you don't have to go to a strange site to get the beta. There's now a Skype beta posted on the main Skype web site. Next, a warning to all who are considering upgrading from anything 1.2.0.48 or older: Though sufficient information exists to support some of the features lost between 1.2 and 1.3, there are still problems, and we're not done scripting for the new versions yet. Therefore, if you upgrade past 1.2, you will lose SkypeWatch functionality and may lose the "New Chat" notification when a new chat line comes in. These will come back in time, and we have proof that Skype is working to help make this possible. The call list is not back, and it will not come back, I'm told, because it was causing various bugs and sluggishnesses. The MSAA support mentioned in the quoted message below, which Skype is in fact adding, is meant to replace it. The MSAA support, when completed, will allow us JAWS scripters to give you a pop-up list of contacts if you like and, hopefully, let you call a contact from that list. Alas, though, the MSAA support is not complete enough yet, as I will explain shortly. The below message says the new beta adds a feature allowing you to choose whether to show offline contacts. In fact, this is an old feature, existing in Skype versions as far back as I can remember, certainly back past 1.1.0.79. About JAWS saying "0 items" for the contact list, Window-Eyes not calling it a list, etc.: Yes, Skype has started implementing MSAA support in the contact list; but they're not done yet. I've been routinely alerting them to the remaining issues of which I am aware. Some of these issues are listed below: 1. JAWS users who have JAWS load automatically at startup can get Range Check errors in the contact list by typing a double JAWSKey+UpArrow, a Control+LeftArrow, and possibly other commands. If you load JAWS manually and not as a service, this will not happen. The Range Check errors are harmless besides causing several seconds' delay. The error is preceeded by an error chord and a delay of maybe seven seconds. If you get an error chord after one of the above commands, you can press the space bar once to close the error box before JAWS manages to announce it, and thus avoid the delay. 2. Although MSAA reports focus on the focused contact list item by setting the State_System_Focused flag, it does not indicate focus properly when a screen reader calls the AccFocus method; and it may not generate the proper events on focus change, though I have not managed sufficient testing of this theory to prove or disprove it. For the not-so-technically inclined, this means various portions of "normal" MSAA behavior for a list are not implemented yet, and this is probably why Window-Eyes and JAWS don't recognize the contact list as a list yet. I continue to work with the Skype developers to fix this. 3. The MSAA name for each list item is the Skype ID of the contact rather than the contact's displayed name. If this isn't fixed before Window-Eyes and JAWS start calling this a list, we'll start hearing Skype IDs in place of displayed names. This would be confusing because the list is alphabetized by displayed name, so the order of list items might at first eem random. Keep in mind, though, this issue will not appear for anyone yet because screen readers aren't calling this a list yet. Now for some good news: Whenever the MSAA support is completed, the MSAA information will contain everything that appears in contact-list tool tips, which means we should no longer have to rely on tool tip tracking to figure out who's online, away, not available, etc. Also, whenever MSAA support is completed, screen reader users should not have to play with highlight color settings when Skype versions change the screen colors, because MSAA should provide enough information to let screen readers follow the highlight bar regardless of its color. A few more miscellaneous tips: If, in the contact list, you discover that JAWS keeps announcing the top line as you try to arrow through contacts, tap the Alt key twice. This activates and deactivates the menu bar once. Why this helps, I may never know; but at least for me, it does. The Start tab is gone, as I've said in previous messages. It is replaced by two panels near the bottom of the screen: one for missed events and one for Skype services. You can click on the Skype services part to launch your browser to the Skype sign-in page where you can review your account, buy or extend services, etc. If you see in the events panel something like, "3 new events," click on that line and then browse up and down with the JAWS cursor to find out what happened. As before in the Start tab, you can left or right-click contact names in this expanded event list to call people, display their call info, start chats, launch authorization windows, etc. If you use the JAWS scripts, ctrl+shift+numbers will still work to jumpt to specific tabs, but the numbers changed because the Start tab is gone. The Contacts tab is now ctrl+shift+1. That's all I can think of right now. I'm sure I'm missing something though, so there may be more notes from me later on on this list. I just downloaded Skype's first 1.4 beta http://www.skypejournal.com/blog/archives/2005/08/14_windows_beta.php According to http://tinyurl.com/c79m8 This has better accessibility than before in that Skype now uses MSAA. After having installed this beta, I can see no change in how Skype handles contacts, at least. Left clicking on a contact does get me into a listbox, but the listbox has zero items. Reclassing the listbox to a listview, and trying to make Jaws use Msaa for lists, doesn't seem to make any difference. Window Eyes doesn't even recognise it as a list, so doesn't read the contact names. I'm wondering if any of the folks who developed the scripts for Skype are on here and might be able to have a look? Unfortunately, the call contacts menu isn't back. BTW, the new skype does have two features which I like. The first, show offline contacts, is off the view menu. If this is checked, all your contacts will be shown in the contacts screen. If it isn't, only contacts which are not offline will be shown. This makes life much easier as you can use the jaws cursor and there's no need to guess whether a contact is offline or not. Secondly, it has call forwarding. You can forward your skype calls to your mobile number or any other phone number or skype name. If you're not on Skype, your phone will ring and you can answer. Of course, you will pay the rate as if you had called from your skype account to the number you've forwarded to. All of them are positioned within the main program window and can be switched between both using the window tabs and a special pane, which displays every single web page currently opened. (I-Newswire) - Convenience is something people constantly seek. That applies to everything - apparel, vehicles, and everyday working conditions. In search of new capabilities of everyday things we constantly experiment and try something new. It happens the same way to software programs. A web browser is something that opens the Internet for us, and how comfortable web surfing is, directly depends on the feature-set and usability of your browser. So choosing a web browser to stick to is like purchasing a brand-new car - you have to consider numerous things before making a final decision - like the look and feel, usability and ease of use, speed and acceleration characteristics, etc. It's common knowledge that Internet Explorer is by far the most popular web browser on desktops worldwide. There are many reasons for that, various reasons. In the first place, the very marketing policy of Microsoft contributes a lot to the popularity of IE. The disputes around this matter are outside the scope of this article. One thing is clear - Internet Explorer is easy-to-use, familiar, and is most of the time the target development platform for the web masters. Which also means we have to use what we have available. The situation has it upsides and downsides. On the one hand, we don't have to bother to find something else, since all the main features are right at the fingertips. On the other though, these features are basic, and not in any way sufficient. For those of you who don't like to put up with the Spartan functionality of Internet Explorer I'm pleased to present a new program that belongs to the multibrowser type. That's when you can open and operate with numerous web pages simultaneously. Please welcome - FineBrowser ( http://www.finebrowser.com ). This choice is not random. This multibrowser is interesting in at least two respects. On the one hand, it incorporates all the characteristic features one would usually expect to find in multibrowser. On the other hand - this is something one might call the next step in the multibrowser evolution. The thing is that many multibrowsers currently on the market, however useful and convenient as far as Internet surfing goes, have not in the recent year shown any degree of significant innovation. This results in a situation, when a great variety of today's multibrowsers deliver essentially identical functionality, being very similar in their feature-set and operation. However, this similarity does not make the importance of multibrowsing functionality any smaller, and we'll get deeper into the subject right now, taking FineBrowser as a specific example. Let's start the review with the discussion of those very characteristic features every multibrowser provides. Typical Multibrowser Functionality Working with multiple pages at a time. So FineBrowser allows opening multiple web pages simultaneously. All of them are positioned within the main program window and can be switched between both using the window tabs and a special pane, which displays every single web page currently opened. It's remarkable, how easily FineBrowser opens more than a hundred of web documents simultaneously ( you can open them and take a coffee break while they are loading ), and how fast the whole thing happens. Therefore, such a pane comes in very handy. All the more useful when it displays a pop-up hint containing comprehensive information for a specific web page when you hover your mouse over a web page link. And yes, every window tab looks different when a page I loaded completely, which allows you to identify the loaded pages at a single glance. Additionally, window tabs can be regrouped, renamed, positioned at the top or at the bottom of the main window, and locked out to protect from accidental close if they contain important information. Usually a multibrowser should allow suspending your browsing session to start next time with exactly the same set of opened web pages you had last time. FineBrowser achieves this by providing the Desktops feature, which makes it easy to save and store a number of desktops 'as is', including all the settings and the opened windows. With this feature you can also group your opened windows by topic, save each topic to a separate desktop and then easily change your surfing direction and switch topics according to your liking without worrying about losing any important data. Loading several web pages simultaneously. Since multibrowsers allow working with multiple web pages at a time, opening, multiple pages with a single mouse-click is a must-have feature for any program of this kind. The most frequently used web pages can be 'quick grouped', so that loading a whole set of pages becomes just a mouse-click away. Blocking the undesired pop-up windows. Similar to most multibrowsers, FineBrowser enables you to block the unwanted pop-up windows with ease. This alone is a great advantage over a conventional browser. Most likely you already experienced a frustrating situation when some malicious web page virtually bombarded you with numerous pop-ups and ads. Sometimes only rebooting your machine may help the situation. So the pop-up-blocking feature has already become part and parcel of every multibrowser. As far as FineBrowser is concerned, this program features an enhanced mechanism of pop-up blocking. FineBrowser not just simply blocks all pop-ups using brute force. It acts the smart way and is capable of automatically distinguishing the unwanted pop-ups from those apparently invoked by the user. There is also an ignore list you can manually replenish to easily specify which web pages should not be processed by the pop-up blocking module. Safeguarding your privacy. When surfing the Net you most likely don't want other people to be aware of the results of your work. FineBrowser makes it easy to wipe out all the information on the user activity automatically stored by Windows. With a single mouse-click you can delete cache files, clear cookies, wipe out typed-URL and web pages history. Translating and voicing web pages for you. When browsing through the intricate maze of the World Wide Web we sometimes find ourselves stuck with a web site written in a language other than your native tongue. To assist you in understanding the content of such sites FineBrowser - similar to other multibrowsers -- allows you to translate the web page. To perform this task, simply click the appropriate command with your mouse and wait till the newly translated page loads. However, unlike other similar software, FineBrowser enables you to easily configure the view and number of the available translations, so that you can get a page translated quickly to the language of your preference. In addition, FineBrowser enables you to voice the contents of the current web document. This feature utilizes a text-to-speech engine which should be installed on your computer, and which determines the quality of the speech generated. However, this feature still allows you to sit back, relax, and listen to your favorite news channel, for instance. Actually, I tested the usefulness of this capability by feeding one of this article's samples to FineBrowser, which gave me an opportunity to 'reread' it without having to even look at the monitor. The voice was not without some metal touch, but generally, this piece was recited quite accurately, and with proper intonation. The accents were incorrect sometimes, as if it were a foreigner stumbling at every unknown word. These, however, are simply minor flaws of the voice engine architecture and FineBrowser has nothing to do with it. The discussed features are characteristic of most popular multibrowsers currently on the market. However, FineBrowser incorporates a number of unique and innovative features, which make your work with multiple web pages all the more convenient. Innovative Features of FineBrowser. Web links archive for a accessing web pages faster. I think everyone would agree, that a faster access to the necessary web resource has a great effect on the effectiveness of your web surfing. How quickly we finally find the required information depends on how quickly we find and type the required Internet address. To make this task easier, FineBrowser features a built-in bookmarks database, which can be manually replenished and can store any bookmarks you need. The database contains not only all the user-added bookmarks and URLs, but can also store additional data like the last view date, your page comments, and even the way it looks. Thanks to this feature you can easily add your personal notes to a web page when viewing it, set a page rating, include it into a rubric and take a web page snapshot. The user can access the previously saved information through the rubricator, where all the pages are grouped into different rubrics and subrubrics. This feature provides many options when working with information. It's possible not only to perform an advanced search by name, keywords in comments, rating or date, but also to work with lists of resources. With just a single mouse-click you can generate a list containing all the resources in a given rubric, sort them by comments, access date, or web address. FineBrowser can combine different lists ( concatenate, compare, etc. ) and export them to a standard html-file. Those heavy web users will certainly find it very handy. Now if you want to tell a friend about some groovy sites, you can send him/her a detailed report based on a resources list, containing small screenshots, ratings and your comments for the web pages. Full web page description will allow you to easily remember what useful information it contains, and taking a quick look at the enlarged screenshot without having to load the actual page makes an excellent visual aid. Thanks to this, it's possible to efficiently work with the already viewed pages offline with a possibility to select a number of pages and load them in new FineBrowser windows. So once visited, a web resource is safely stored in the database and we don't have to memorize those lengthy Internet addresses. It's like bookkeeping - safely in the records. Additional features when opening multiple pages at a time. FineBrowser, unlike other multibrowsers, provides some new options when opening many pages simultaneously. The first one, as mentioned above, is by using a list. Possibilities are limitless with this feature. On the other hand, you can utilize the rubricator to open all the pages within a given rubric. Besides, FineBrowser makes it easy to open several hyperlinks just from within a web page. Simply select the necessary text segment, right-click it and voila! - you can open al the links it contains both in new Internet Explorer and FineBrowser windows. The application will exclude the duplicates the smart way and will let you specify which pages should not be loaded. Accessing the already loaded web pages. FineBrowser allows you to avoid loading the already opened web pages time and again. If, for instance, when exploring a web resource we encounter a link that leads to an already opened page, FineBrowser will detect it and simply switch to the that page without loading it anew. Additionally, FineBrowser automatically stores the page navigation history. This allows you to easily go to the next/previous web page by utilizing the special navigation buttons. This feature is helpful, especially when you usually view the available web page randomly. Visited links highlighting and navigating within a domain. However, the real power of FineBrowser comes from the program's ability to utilize the data automatically stored in its internal database when navigating through the Web. Thanks to that feature FineBrowser can highlight the already visited web pages in a special way ( strikeout by default ). Hovering you mouse over such a link makes the program display a pop-up hint containing all the available information on a given web page, including a small snapshot. Often this helps avoid revisiting the unnecessary web [ages and understand where a link leads without having to click on it. We often come to a website again to continue exploring the resource, or to simply remember what kind of information it provides. FineBrowser allows you to optimize this process thanks to its innovative 'domain links' feature. Once you visited a specific web site, next time you encounter some page of the site, FineBrowser will inform you about it by highlighting the "Domain links" button. Clicking the button with your mouse displays a list containing all visited site pages with detailed information attached. This helps you to easily decide whether a page is worth revisiting by taking a quick look at your own personal comments. Summarizing this review I can say we have many options when choosing a browser. Chances are, everyone will find something for himself/herself. Just remember to dig for and explore new things - since what programs you have at the ready to a great extent determines your everyday success. And FineBrowser can make an excellent tool in your arsenal. If you have questions regarding information in this press release contact the company listed below. "Why," he asked himself, "can't I go around the world on $80." This is his fascinating true story. Around The World On $80 By Saleem Rana Jules Vernes adventure story, Around the World in 80 Days, stimulated the imagination of 26-year-old Robert Christopher. "Why," he asked himself, "can't I go around the world on $80." Bob's first step was to list all the problems that he would face. His second step was to note all possible solutions. His third step was to take action! He started by signing a contract with the Charles Pfizer Company, a large pharmaceutical company, to collect soil samples from the various countries that he planned to visit. Next he secured an international driver's license, obtained maps in return for a proposed report on Middle East road conditions, acquired seamen's papers, and secured a letter from the New York Police Department to show that he had no criminal record. Then he took care of his boarding by arranging for a youth hostel membership. His final step was to talk a freight airline into flying him over the Atlantic in return for photographs which could be used for company publicity. Bob left New York City with $80 in his pocket. He used his wits to travel around the world in 86 days. He saved money by breakfasting free in Gander, Newfoundland, by photographing the cooks in a hotel kitchen. He also travelled free by bus from Syria to Damascus by taking pictures of a Syrian policeman who then ordered a bus driver to transport Bob. And he used the same idea to travel free from Baghdad to Teheran. This time he took pictures of the staff of the Iraq Express Transportation Company. Another idea he used to get free or inexpensive travel was to use cigarettes as a medium of exchange. He bought four cartons of American cigarettes in Shannon, Ireland, for $4.80. He used one carton to pay someone to drive him from Paris to Vienna. And he used four cigarette packs to pay a train conductor fro a trip from Vienna to Switzerland through the Alps. Besides cigarettes, Bob also used maps as a medium of exchange. In Bangkok, the owner of an expensive restaurant fed him in exchange for a a set of maps and a detailed description of a specific area that Bob had travelled through. Bob finally came home to the U.S. as a crew member of the S.S. Flying Spray, which transported him from Japan to San Francisco. Bob proved to himself that any given aim could be accomplished if he had faith in it. Robert Christopher set himself an apparantly impossible task. He wanted to challenge himself. He wanted to prove that he could do anything he set his mind to doing. He used organized thinking, exercised initiative, self-discipline, and creative vision, and acted with faith and confidence. In your own life, you can do apparantly impossible things as well if you can organize your thinking, and exercise initiative, self-discipline, and creative vision, and act with faith and confidence. Above all, refuse to believe in the impossible. You can do anything you want once you set your mind on it and follow through with a positive plan. Believe in your dreams and make them real by trying out all possible options. When you're sufficiently motivated to do something-no matter how impossible it may seem-your mind will create ways to convert your dreams into reality. With that powerful, positive attitude, formed into a mental habit, you'll find the 'How.'" Robert Butwin, master marketer Aha, don't let a day passed without a laugh ... A guy is walking past a high, solid wooden fence at the insane asylum and he hears all the residents inside chanting, "Thirteen! Thirteen! Thirteen!" He continues walking along the long fence, but, being a curious person, he can't help but wonder why they are chanting "Thirteen!" over and over. Could it be that they are chugging beer? Are they perhaps taking turns beating one of the inmates? Maybe they are counting the number of patients that have leapt off of the roof thus far. His curiosity peaks and he frantically searches for a hole in the fence so that he may see what is going on. Finally, he spots one a few feet ahead. The hole is low in the fence and he has to kneel down to peer inside. He moves into position and peeks into the hole. As he looks in, someone inside pokes him in the eye! Then everyone inside the asylum starts chanting, "Fourteen! Fourteen! Fourteen!" That's all for now. Remember, to convert the impossible to possible, be positive, believe in your dreams, be yourself, believe in yourself and start the ball rolling. Thank you. For 9/2/05 - An Introduction to Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 Message-ID: <00cc01c5b105$72d06520$2db7bcca@userb9e9355ddf> From: "Aaron Smith" Disclaimer The following message includes information regarding Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1. Please note that Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 HAS NOT been released at this time. We are, however, providing you with some small glimpses into the features that Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 will contain. We are currently not answering any questions regarding the functionality of the beta. The only things we're going to talk about will be what we have included in our new Guess What series, which will continue daily up to the beta release date, September 6, 2005. We will answer all questions at that time. Please be patient; you will be rewarded. If you're subscribed to the GW Micro podcast feed (available at www.gwmicro.com/podcast ), you'll automatically receive this Guess What in mp3 format. If you want to download the MP3, read this article online, or view more Guess What articles (when they are released), please visit www.gwmicro.com/beta . Enjoy! -- Welcome to GW Micro's "Guess What?" series, an introductory look at the upcoming release of Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1. Guess what? We're still gearing up for the release of Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1, currently scheduled for Tuesday, September 6, 2005. We hope you are enjoying our sneak peak looks at the new features that Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 has to offer. Today we're going to continue looking at the robust, performance driven Excel support in Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1. Microsoft Excel can use charts to display data (such as comparisons, patterns, and trends) using a visual representation. Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 provides you with access to all of the chart types that Excel provides, and there are several: . Area Chart (6 variations) . Surface Chart (4 variations) . Bar Chart (6 variations) . Radar Chart (3 variations) . Column Chart (7 variations) . Bubble Chart (2 variations) . Line Chart (7 variations) . (XY) Scatter Chart (5 variations) . Pie Chart (6 variations) . Doughnut Chart (2 variations) . Cylinder (7 variations) . Cone (7 variations) . Pyramid (7 variations) . Stock Chart (4 variations) In other words, Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 supports all 73 different chart possibilities that exist in Microsoft Excel. Regardless of the complexity of a chart, Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 can break down the data in a simple, meaningful way, providing visually impaired users the same access to the data as any sighted person would have. Not only does Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 support navigating through the elements of a chart using the up, down, left, and right arrow keys, but you can also retrieve all of the information about a chart with one, single key stroke, the Element Properties hot key (INS-E by default). Let's examine how Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 can provide access to charts. I've already created a sample chart, with some data that represents the number of spam emails that Dan, Doug, Mike, Aaron, Bill, Jeremy, and Clarence might receive in a given week. Using my left and right arrow keys, I can navigate through the major groups of the chart to get a feel for how the information is presented. The arrow keys allow you to get a good sense of how a chart is laid out, along with how the various groups of data are organized. As previously mentioned, Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 can provide all of the details of a given chart in a single edit box, using the Element Properties hot key. The Element Properties dialog will contain different information depending on what portion of the chart is active when you press the element properties hot key. To get a general overview of all the information presented in a chart, I'll select the main chart area, and press INS-E. As you can tell, there is a lot of good information about the details of this chart, and moving through the data is easy by simply arrowing up and down. The real power of the Element Properties dialog is evident when viewing the properties of different chart elements. For example, element properties are different when viewing them for the main chart area versus viewing the properties of an individual group of data, or individual data points. Let's see how this differs from bringing up the Element Properties dialog when a specific group of data is active. Now we'll examine the data of an individual series on the chart. Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 provides you with incredible power when reading through any Excel chart. Whether you're navigating through the chart data one element at a time or whether you retrieve all the chart information with one simple key stroke, all chart data is completely accessible. Don't be surprised if your co-workers soon ask you for help with interpreting the boss's fancy charts. We hope today's "Guess What?" has given you a glimpse into the power of Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 as we uncover more innovative new ideas for Microsoft Excel. We're still just scratching the surface of Excel support, and we still have many other exciting features to announce. Stay tuned for tomorrow's "Guess What?" to learn more about Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1. -- To insure that you receive proper support, please include all past correspondence (where applicable), and any relevant information pertinent to your situation when submitting a problem report to the GW Micro Technical Support Team. We'll be covering a new feature in Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 every day until the release of 5.5 Beta 1, so stop by our web site ( www.gwmicro.com/beta ) daily to make sure you don't miss any of the exciting new features. GW Micro is making your life easier with the great features found in Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1. Through the Guess What series, you have learned how Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 is going to make your computing experiences better through our enhanced Excel support, new menu levels, and other features. With enhanced Excel support, you will be able to do everything a sighted person can do with Excel, creating more job opportunities for you. With our new menu level system, beginners can quickly understand Window-Eyes, and start using it immediately, making them efficient in any situation. And today, we will be covering one of the other new features that many of you have been waiting for: putting Window-Eyes in the system tray. We will also be talking about some of the programs that Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 enhances support for. All of these features come together in Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 to make your life easier. Before we dive in to some of the programs that Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 supports, let's first talk about the system tray feature. Before Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1, Window-Eyes was always in the taskbar. This meant that when you pressed ALT-TAB to switch between programs, Window-Eyes would always be part of the list of programs. GW Micro is making your computing experience effortless. Make your complicated life uncomplicated with Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 by using the new system tray feature. Now, you can either continue to use Window-Eyes in the task bar, or put Window-Eyes in the system tray. The system tray feature means that you don't have to hear that Window-Eyes is running when switching between tasks. Let's give it a shot. First, we need to open the Window-Eyes Control Panel with CTRL-BACKSLASH. You must make sure that you are using the Intermediate or Advanced menu level for this option to be available. If you need to know how to change the menu level, check out the menu level Guess What. Window-Eyes tells us that it is open. Then, we need to press ALT-F to get in to the File menu. Window-Eyes reads the first item in the File menu. We will use the UP ARROW to get to Run in System Tray, and press ENTER. Window-Eyes tells us the menu is closed. However, the Control Panel is still open, so Window-Eyes is not yet running in the system tray. To make Window-Eyes run in the system tray, we will press ESC. To make sure that Window-Eyes is actually running in the system tray, let's press Windows-Key B, which is the Windows command to put focus in the system tray. And the first thing we heard was Window-Eyes, which means Window-Eyes is now conveniently running in the system tray. With this fantastic new feature, you no longer have to hear Window-Eyes when pressing ALT-TAB. This feature makes Window-Eyes so seamless; it's almost as if you are using your computer without a screen reader. Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 offers you more independence than ever before. With the added functionality that we have talked about in the Guess What series, such as the new menu system, and the support for Firefox and Excel, Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 will open up a whole new world for you. GW Micro is pioneering technology to help support you, the customer, in your daily life. To that end, Window-Eyes now has enhanced support for Sonar, versions 4 and 5, Visual Studio 2005, Lotus Notes, and MSN Messenger 7.5. Perhaps the most exciting support that Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 includes is for Windows Vista, formerly known as Longhorn, the next operating system that will replace Windows XP. Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 offers preliminary support for beta versions of Windows Vista through XPDM. If you have access to betas of Windows Vista, you are ready to experiment with the latest operating system. Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 is setting the standard for the next generation of screen readers. You will have more employment opportunities, be able to do your homework faster, be able to write personal emails and do other personal tasks (such as balancing your checkbook) all with the stability and reliability that you have come to know and depend on from Window-Eyes. However, I think my NewTextEvent function needs more tweaking as when I enable the auto-speak feature using a script I've written for that purpose, JAWS reads more information than is necessary. Like its predecessor, the HRT3 uses laser technology to produce a topographical image of a patient's optic nerve, providing an objective analysis of the structure's cup, rim and retinal nerve fiber layer. Optic disc topography has been found to be predictive of visual field loss according to a long-term study published in the April 2005 issue of the Journal of Glaucoma. Heidelberg Engineering has incorporated several new features in the HRT3 in direct response to customer feedback. These include the FastCheck(TM) Glaucoma Probability Score(TM), which is generated using an advanced form of artificial intelligence called a relevance vector machine. This sophisticated analysis provides a statistical probability of glaucoma using ethnic-specific databases. In addition, the software eliminates the need to draw contour lines or use reference planes and provides real-time feedback to assist the operator in acquiring a high-quality image. "Optic disc assessment is more important than visual field loss as the earliest indicator of glaucoma," said Dr. Gerhard Zinser, managing director and head of R&D for Heidelberg Engineering. "For more than 10 years, optometrists and ophthalmologists have been using the HRT to analyze optic discs, producing a wealth of longitudinal data. This data is confirming the role of our technology in early glaucoma detection." The HRT3 monitors the patient's condition over time, comparing baseline images with follow-up examinations and highlighting areas of statistically significant progression. Monitoring progression is important in determining the course of treatment. The HRT3 is a portable, laptop-based system that can be placed in a compact carrying case. Heidelberg Engineering expects to begin shipping the new product in the last quarter of the year. About Heidelberg Engineering GmbH Headquartered near Heidelberg, Germany, this privately held company is the leader in light-based diagnostics for ophthalmic applications and has the world's largest installed base of laser imaging equipment. The company designs, manufactures and markets a variety of diagnostic instruments for application in retina, glaucoma and cornea diseases. http://www.tmcnet.com/usubmit/2005/sep/1178172.htm Regards, Ultraman Blind. http://www.network54.com/Index/41640 komuniti_oku-subscribe at yahoogroups.com http://groups.yahoo.com/group/komuniti_oku/ http://www.jaring.my/weblog/view.php?user=buta74 http://planet.time.net.my/centralmarket/taikhaieong From khaieong at tm.net.my Mon Sep 5 10:49:43 2005 From: khaieong at tm.net.my (Ultraman) Date: Mon, 05 Sep 2005 10:49:43 +0800 Subject: [share] Tan Wei Lian: Asia's Stevie Wonder? Message-ID: <01f701c5b1d0$9fba0750$45b7bcca@userb9e9355ddf> Today Online, Singapore Saturday, September 03, 2005 Tan Wei Lian: Asia's Stevie Wonder? By Elisa Chia elisa at newstoday.com.sg Yes, the barbs have hurt, but Wei Lian's ready to wow the region SIX months ago, Tan Wei Lian sang at bus interchanges and MRT stations to make a living. Now, he has the chance to become Asia's Stevie Wonder. Before 8,000 screaming fans at the Singapore Indoor Stadium - and 1.1 million watching on TV - Wei Lian wept like a baby when he was pronounced winner of MediaCorp TV Channel U's first Project SuperStar contest. He bagged 64 per cent of the 533,000 telephone votes. He also sold more singles than his rival Kelly Poon. His triumph was absolute. The blind boy who taught himself how to play the guitar and the piano had come a long way. "When I used to busk on the streets, passers-by would stop to listen once in a while. Now, I guess people can buy my CDs and they can listen whenever they like," he said at a press conference after the show, drawing laughter from reporters. Fans of Project SuperStar have been following Wei Lian's progress since the show debuted in June. But his impact has extended beyond the Chinese-speaking community. Singaporeans of every race and tongue wondered if "that blind guy" would prevail in the Mandopop contest. But Wei Lian's remarkable resilience is a double-edged sword. His ability to overcome his visual handicap has, to a certain extent, handicapped his success. Cynics still ask the same tired question: Did he win on talent or sympathy? Did Singaporeans vote with their heads or their hearts? "There are only five judges, but the audience is . I don't know, two-million strong? Maybe in their eyes, I'm different. Whether it's sympathy or not, I've no further comment anymore," he said abruptly. While he's thrilled by his victory, he knew the pressure on him would increase along with the criticism. At one point in the competition, he even wanted to throw in the towel. "I was just a little tired lah, because there were too many negative comments about me going around," he said. "Actually, I love reading all that stuff on the Internet forum, but sometimes it gets too extreme," added Wei Lian, who uses a software that reads out what is on the screen. Then flashing a toothy smile, he said: "But I think it's good training for me lor. "Sometimes you've to go through such harsh criticism to grow stronger. So for those who want to have more negative things to say about it, bring it on." That prompted MediaCorp Deputy Group CEO for TV Chang Long Jong to pat him on the shoulder and say: "Remember, for every negative comment out there, you should know there is a positive comment for you too." Known for his moving vocals, Wei Lian didn't reach his usual high standards at the grand final and some thought that 22-year-old air stewardess Kelly was the better performer on the night. "I think I did okay with the first two songs, but then I started to think about how far I've come since the contest started," he said. "I was also exhausted from the rehearsals. I thought I would keep all my energy for the final, but I ran out towards my fourth and fifth song!" But that's over now and Wei Lian must find a way to break into the Asian market. Play Music has already given him a recording contract and its marketing director says there already plans underway to market him in countries like Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China. "People from around the region have already heard about this blind guy entering a Singaporean singing competition," he told Today. Wei Lian's debut album is slated for a December release. And while he has already displayed his vocals and his proficiency on guitar and keyboard, Mr Kang said he would encourage the former busker to try his hand at song writing. "That really would take him a little closer to becoming Asia's Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder," he said. "That's the dream." http://www.todayonline.com/articles/70334.asp Regards, Ultraman Blind. http://www.network54.com/Index/41640 komuniti_oku-subscribe at yahoogroups.com http://groups.yahoo.com/group/komuniti_oku/ http://www.jaring.my/weblog/view.php?user=buta74 http://planet.time.net.my/centralmarket/taikhaieong From moseschoo at ncbm.org.my Mon Sep 5 12:57:05 2005 From: moseschoo at ncbm.org.my (Moses Choo) Date: Mon, 5 Sep 2005 12:57:05 +0800 Subject: [share] Tan Wei Lian: Asia's Stevie Wonder? On the other hand, we, as blind people ourselves should feel proud that someone in the Asia region has been successful in performing better than thousands to immerge as Singapore's superstar. This is one example where the public has accepted the ability of a blind person. Despite winning, there are some who have commented that there were many simpothy votes. Whether it is simpothy or not, the fact that he has managed to get 64% of the vote that matters. I also learnt that he sold a thousand more of his singles. In fact, I would very much want to buy his songs. For those interested, just wait till the end of the year. He will be releasing an album. His success should be spread as well, especially in Malaysia. Though we have several singers, none of them have really gone very far. It is the same old prejudice that is preventing. How about sending this article to all your friends and telling them about such a success. However, we can't wait for that day. so, until that happens, we will have to face the challenges and go!. For 9/4/05 - An Introduction to Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 Message-ID: <012701c5b228$4cbabe70$d02d18d3@userb9e9355ddf> Welcome to GW Micro's "Guess What?" series, an introductory look at the upcoming release of Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1. Guess what? The release of Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 is only two days away. Can you feel the excitement? We can. And we're anxious to have everyone download and try it out on Tuesday, September 6, 2005. Today, we're going to wrap out our Excel highlights by talking about two very popular Window-Eyes dialogs. When browsing the web, you use these dialogs to make navigation easier, and find out more information about specific items. In Microsoft Word, you use these dialogs to move between common objects, and get more information about particular elements in your documents. As you've probably guessed, I'm referring to the Element Properties and Page Navigation dialogs. You may recall hearing about the Element Properties dialog in the "Guess What?" article about chart navigation. The Element Properties is an excellent way to obtain detailed information about the active cell. For example, you can retrieve textual information such as the contents of the cell, the cell position, font name, font size, text color, text attributes (including bold, italic, underline, etc.), horizontal alignment, vertical alignment, number format, border styles, cell size, as well as any of the cell information verbosity options, including formulas, comments, and so on. As mentioned in the Chart Navigation "Guess What?" article released a few days ago, the Element Properties dialog can provide all kinds of information for charts, such as chart title, chart type, series information, axis information, and a host of advanced information, including chart size, obscured cells, fill types, and more. Element Properties can even provide information about objects, such and their type, and any descriptive text. Let's examine what Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 has to tell us about some of the cells in the first spreadsheet we opened in our first "Guess What?" article, the America One program guide. With the first cell active, I'm going to press the Element Properties hot key, INS-E by default, and listen to what Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 has to tell me about the cell I'm on. Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 has provided all of the textual information that exists for that cell. Let's navigate to another cell, and look at the element properties again. The Element Properties dialog provides you with a lot of power in determining how a spreadsheet is designed, providing you with the same access to information and formatting as a sighted user would have. The other dialog that helps make using Excel a breeze is the Page Navigation dialog. Just like when browsing the web, or traversing Word documents, the page navigation dialog in Excel allows you to obtain a list of a specified element, as well as the option to navigate to the selected item. With Page Navigation, you'll be able to list things like Comments, Hyperlinks, Objects, Named Areas, Page Breaks, and Charts. You'll also be able to retrieve a list of all the cells in the current row, and the current column. You can also list all of the worksheets in a workbook, and even get a list of any monitor cells that you've defined. If we bring up the Page Navigation dialog in our America One program schedule, we can use the cells in row, and cells in column features to get a quick look at the program listings for either an entire day, or entire time. For example, let's navigate to Tuesday (cell C3), bring up the Page Navigation dialog, and press ALT-E for Cells in Column. Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 gives us a list of all the cells in the column, providing quick access to all of the programs being shown on that day. Let's move over to the cell containing 10:00 am, and see what's showing at that time all week long. We hope today's "Guess What?" has given you a glimpse into the power of Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 and its innovative new ideas for Microsoft Excel. As with Microsoft Word, Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 continues to raise the bar with unsurpassed support for Microsoft Excel, giving you the tools you need to get the job done quickly, accurately, and reliably. With Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1, you really can "Excel." Stay tuned for tomorrow's "Guess What?" to hear a wrap up of all the Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 features that we've discussed over the past week, as well as information on how to get your own copy of Window-Eyes 5.5 Beta 1 when it becomes available. -- To insure that you receive proper support, please include all past correspondence (where applicable), and any relevant information pertinent to your situation when submitting a problem report to the GW Micro Technical Support Team. I'm including the below message about Google talk that I wrote to Blindtech a few days ago. I have modified it somewhat adding the few undocumented keystrokes I have found. Though I tested with Jaws only, I see no reason Window Eyes wouldn't work, there is very little that is jaws specific and untranslatable into Wineyes terms. It really is a nice program. HTH. Aman Hi, all. I've just finished playing with the google talk beta, and thought some people here who have Gmail accounts might be interested in trying it out. First, the good points. The program is simple to the point of austerity. There is no advertising whatever on the screen, and it's not cluttered at all. The voice quality is very good, even to me, and I've been using Skype, the quality of which is quite good, for quite a while. I was talking to someone who was on a dial-up connection earlier today. We started on Skype and switched to Google. The quality on Google was notably better for me, and he said the same. Google had no trouble negotiating my UPNP-enabled home router, and the connection did not drop once in about 80 minutes of conversation. Now, the bad points, and all have to do with accessibility. My thanks to Amir Soleimani for his testing and help. Unfortunately, I was not able to test this with Window Eyes. First, if you're going to use the program, you're going to have to use the Jaws cursor. There are, to the best of my knowledge, very few keyboard shortcuts, and those aren't documented. If anyone has any links to documentation for keyboard shortcuts, I'd love to hear of it. Having said that, the Jaws cursor works quite well. The buttons are generally self-explanatory. At the top of the window, there is the title, "google talk". On some systems, there are two graphics to the right of this on the same line. These are minimize and exit, in that order from the left. Of course, one can use windows+m in the usual way. It and alt+f4 will send the program to the system tray, and it can be wholly killed from there through right-clicking on it if desired. Under that title line, one finds three options. Inbox, settings, help. They're in that order, and they're announced by Jaws. Clicking on them with the jaws cursor will activate them. The inbox is the standard Gmail inbox. The settings are in an accessible multi-page dialogue usable in the usual way (except for the block contacts list which I don't seem to be able to use though, to be fair, I haven't really tried much). The help is displayed in a standard web browser window. Under these three options is the user's own name and status. Under that is a graphic and an edit box which can be used, though not very accessibly by me, to search one's contacts. Under that search box is a list of the friends that one has added to the messenger. A word on terminology. Contacts are all the addresses in your Gmail, and possibly in your Outlook and Windows, address book. Friends are those you've explicitly added to Google Talk as people you want to talk to or send instant messages to. You will, at this point, have no friends in the list. Therefore, you will get to the bottom of the window and hear "add a friend". Clicking this will result in an accessible dialogue box which you can tab through to add someone. You can get the address from contacts or just enter it directly. Hit next and you'll get an accessible message about their being added or not. Note that only Gmail users can talk to Gmail users, but Gmail accounts are free. Hit finish and your friend should be added. Now, you should have a list of at least one person on the screen. Note that, like most other messengers, the person must authorize you, so his/her status will show as "invited" or some variant until he/she gets google talk or, if it's already installed, until he/she authorizes you (through another accessible dialogue). Finding out if a friend is online is a headache. To do so, put your cursor on the friend's name and stay there for a second or two. Down arrow once and you should hear your friend's email address. Down arrow once again and you should hear the friend's status, whether available, offline, or something else. Note that, after you do this, you may find your jaws cursor stuck in your friend's info. Simply route jaws to PC and hit page up or page down to get loose and you can range the screen once again. If this method of determining who's online is a pain, you can, from the settings box, check a box to "hide all offline friends". This is much simpler. Note that you can remove a friend by right-clicking on the name and hitting "remove" from the resulting menu. To call a friend, click his/her name once with your mouse cursor. This will open a box in which you can type an instant message. Instant messages can be read in one of two ways. They can be read with the Jaws cursor or, and this is easier, with the normal PC cursor. To read the messages with the PC cursor, you need to single left click on the text of any message. This puts the cursor into a normal read-only edit box from which you can read a history of messages. When it's time to type another message, just start typing. The cursor will automatically move to the edit box where messages are typed before sending. To send, press enter. Note that a press of backspace will also bring you from the edit box with the history of messages into the edit box for typing messages. Also note that most symbols will not. That is, when you're in the history read-only edit and type ".", you'll still be in the history edit box. When, however, you type "a" or press the backspace key, you'll be taken to the edit box where you type your messages. To move on, at the top of the instant message window, just below the title line, are the mail and call buttons. These are self-explanatory. Hitting mail, the keyboard shortcut for which is F9, will bring you to a Gmail compose page ready for a message. Hitting call, the shortcut for which is f11, will result in ringing and, once your friend picks up, you can talk as usual into your mic. In the call window, once a call has been initiated, there is a "end call" and "mute" button. The keyboard shortcut for end call seems to be f12, and you can use that same shortcut if you place a call, your friend hasn't answered, and you want to stop ringing his line. Again, these buttons do what they say. Note that the only change I can see when the mute button is on is that it changes colour. That is, when your microphone is unmuted, the colour is reported by Jaws as "midnight blue on black". When the microphone is muted, the colour is reported as "orange 3 on black". The mute button is a toggle, hit it once to mute, again to unmute. To answer a call, click the an swer button when the call notification comes up. There's also an ignore button. Let me say that I think I've made this sound too complicated. It took me about ten minutes with the program and some help from a friend, to get the hang of most of its functions, which process was very much quickened by its simplicity. Of course, Google has a lot of improving to do, but much of this is relatively standard (put the contacts in a list, put in some more keyboard shortcuts, put the messages in an edit field). Other than that, Google's product is very usable, though not easily accessed. The audio quality is impressive, and that makes up for a lot. The React talking signs system is up and running in Newbury with 11 speakers set up across the Berkshire town. Each speaker in activated by a "trigger module" carried by a visually-impaired person passing close to it. The speakers have been installed at spots including the library, the Kennet Shopping Centre and the Corn Exchange. 'Increased confidence' Local resident Alison Clarke has been the driving force behind the council-backed scheme. She said: "The support of the community and businesses in the district has been overwhelming. "React is a superb facility which will enable visually impaired people to get around the town safely, independently and with increased confidence." Speakers are to be installed in the town at five more locations. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/berkshire/4211230.stm Regards, Ultraman Blind. (Tech article for Firefox browserusers) Message-ID: <039801c5b2a2$4d548d00$562b18d3@userb9e9355ddf> O'Reilly Network Monday, September 05, 2005 What Is Greasemonkey? (Tech article for Firefox browser users) By Mark Pilgrim Greasemonkey is a Firefox extension that allows you to write scripts that alter the web pages you visit. You can use it to make a website more readable or more usable. You can fix bugs that the site owner can't be bothered to fix themselves. You can alter pages so they work better with assistive technologies that speak to a web page aloud or convert it to Braille. You can even automatically retrieve data from other sites to make two sites more interconnected. In This Article: Getting Started The Anatomy of a User Script Coding a User Script Managing User Scripts Finding User Scripts By itself, Greasemonkey does none of these things. In fact, after you install it, you won't notice any change at all, until you start installing what are called "user scripts." A user script is just a chunk of JavaScript, the same scripting language you use on your own website. But user scripts don't run on your own website; they can run on any website, and they can do anything JavaScript can do. In fact, they can do more than that, because Greasemonkey provides special API functions that give user scripts even more power than traditional JavaScript. Greasemonkey has existed for less than a year, and hundreds of people have already written thousands of Greasemonkey scripts to scratch their own personal itches. Web enthusiasts with zero JavaScript experience have written scripts to route around broken websites, alter site styles, and "roll back" ill-conceived site redesigns. More experienced coders have created link trackers, password managers, and personal shopping agents. Some have even added entirely new features to complex web applications--without ever needing to talk to the application developers or wait for bureaucratic approval. Clearly, there were a lot of itches waiting to be scratched. 1 Getting Started The first thing you need to do to get started with Greasemonkey is install it. Open Firefox and go to greasemonkey.mozdev.org. Click the Install Greasemonkey link. (At time of writing, the latest version is 0.5.1.) Firefox may not let you install it, since it maintains a whitelist of websites that are allowed to install software on your machine. Type the address sand click "Allow" to allow this site, then click the "Install Greasemonkey" link again. This time, Firefox will pop up the Install dialog to confirm that you really want to install it. After Greasemonkey downloads, quit Firefox and relaunch it to finish the installation. As I said, Greasemonkey doesn't do anything by itself, except add a few items to the Tools menu and the right-click context menu. All Greasemonkey does is enable you to install "user scripts" that customize specific web pages. The first user script I ever wrote was called Butler. It adds functionality to Google search results. To see a brief description of the functionality that Butler offers, visit the Butler home page. To install it, right-click (Control-click on a Mac) the link titled "Download version 0.3." From the context menu, select "Install User Script...." Link: http://diveintomark.org/projects/butler/ Greasemonkey pops up a dialog titled "Install User Script," displaying the name of the script you are about to install (Butler), a brief description of what the script does, and a list of included and excluded pages. All of this information is taken from the script itself, as we'll see in a moment. Click OK to install the Butler user script. If all went well, Greasemonkey displays the following alert: "Success! Refresh page to see changes." Now, search for something in Google. In the search results page, there is a line at the top of the results that says "Try your search on Yahoo, Ask Jeeves, AlltheWeb, ...,". There is also a banner along the top that says "Enhanced by Butler." All of these options were added by the Butler user script. In addition to web search results, Butler also alters image search results by adding links to a variety of image search engines. It even adds links in Froogle to other product comparison and shopping sites. 2 The Anatomy of a User Script Hopefully I've piqued your interest. But how does this all work? It's surprisingly simple. Let's crack open the Butler user script and see how it works. Every user script has a section of metadata, which tells Greasemonkey about the script itself, where it came from, and when to run it. You can use this to provide users with information about your script, such as its name and a brief description of what it does. You can also provide a default configuration for where the script should run: one page, one site, or a selection of multiple sites. The metadata section of the Butler user script looks like this: // ==UserScript== // @name Butler // @namespace http://diveintomark.org/projects/butler/ // @description Link to competitors from Google search results // @include http://*.google.*/ * // ==/UserScript== There are five separate pieces of metadata here, wrapped in a set of Greasemonkey-specific comments. Let's take them in order, starting with the wrapper: Wrapper // ==UserScript== // // ==/UserScript== These comments are significant and must match this pattern exactly. Greasemonkey uses them to signal the start and end of a user script's metadata section. This section can be defined anywhere in your script, but it's usually near the top. You can specify the items of your user script metadata in any order. I like @name, @namespace, @description, @include, and finally @exclude, but there is nothing special about this order. Name // @name Butler This is the name of your user script. It is displayed in the install dialog when you first install the script and later in the Manage User Scripts dialog. It should be short and to the point. @name is optional. If present, it can appear only once. If not present, the default is the filename of the user script, minus the .user.js extension. Namespace // @namespace http://diveintomark.org/projects/butler/ This is a URL, which Greasemonkey uses to distinguish user scripts that have the same name but are written by different authors. If you have a domain name, you can use it (or a subdirectory) as your namespace. @namespace is optional. If present, it can appear only once. If not present, the default is the domain from which the user downloaded the user script. Description // @description Link to competitors from Google search results This is a human-readable description of what the user script does. It is displayed in the install dialog when you first install the script and later in the Manage User Scripts dialog. It should be no longer than two sentences. @description is optional. If present, it can appear only once. If not present, the default is an empty string. Though @description is not mandatory, don't forget to include it. Even if you are writing user scripts only for yourself, you will eventually end up with dozens of them, and administering them all in the Manage User Scripts dialog will be much more difficult without descriptions. Include The @include directive lists the URLs and wildcards that tell Greasemonkey where to run this user script: // @include http://*.google.*/ * There is also an @exclude directive, which shares the same syntax. The @include and @exclude directive can each be a URL; a URL with the * character as a simple wildcard for part of the domain name or path; or simply the * wildcard character by itself. In this case, we are telling Greasemonkey to execute the Butler script on all Google sites in all countries, all subdomains (such as http://froogle.google.com/ ), and on all pages within any of those Google properties. Everywhere Google is, we want to be there. @include and @exclude are optional. You can specify as many included and excluded URLs as you like, but you must specify each on its own line. If neither is specified, Greasemonkey will execute your user script on all sites (as if you had specified @include *). 4 Coding a User Script User scripts are written in JavaScript. On every page you visit, Greasemonkey looks through the list of installed user scripts, determines which ones apply to this page (based on the @include and @exclude directives), and executes them after the page is loaded but before it is rendered. The scripts themselves can do anything you like. Butler works on a number of different Google pages, and does different things to each type of page, so it contains some code to check where exactly we are and calls the appropriate methods. For example, on Google web search results pages, Butler adds the "Enhanced by Butler" banner along the top, removes the ads along the top and right sides of the results, adds the "try your search on..." line, and may also add other "try your search on..." lines for inline movie reviews, news headlines, weather forecasts, and product results. The code to do this is straightforward: var href = window.location.href; // Google web search if (href.match(/^http:\/\/www\.google\.[\w\.]+\/search/i)) { Butler.addLogo(); Butler.removeSponsoredLinks(); Butler.addOtherWebSearches(); Butler.addOtherInlineMovieReviews(); Butler.addOtherInlineNewsResults(); Butler.addOtherInlineForecasts(); Butler.addOtherInlineProductSearches(); } Each of these functions is defined elsewhere in the Butler user script. (Greasemonkey user scripts are always self-contained. If you need to bundle multiple interdependent scripts, you're probably better off writing a browser extension.) 5 Managing User Scripts The Butler user script barely scratches the surface of what Greasemonkey can do. There are literally thousands of user scripts, some targeting a single page or a single site, others that work on every page. Because you can have multiple user scripts installed, Greasemonkey provides a graphical interface for managing them. >From the Firefox Tools menu, select "Manage User Scripts" (See Figure 6). >Here you can see all the user scripts you have installed, change their configuration, disable them temporarily, or uninstall them completely. You can even edit a user script "live" and see your changes immediately, without restarting Firefox. This is enormously helpful while you're developing your own user scripts. 6 Finding User Scripts Many user scripts are available at the Greasemonkey script repository. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nor Azman bin Sukerman" To: Sent: Monday, September 05, 2005 7:51 PM Subject: Re: [share] Tukar Status Akaun Streamyx > bukankah tm net anak syarikat telekom? kan pelanggan telefon menghadapi > penipuan yang sama? tak kan tak pernah kena? baiknya awak? > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Ultraman" > To: > Sent: Sunday, September 04, 2005 9:52 PM > Subject: Re: [share] Tukar Status Akaun Streamyx > > >> Bukan telekom penipu.
